Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes. The material structure is refined using a hi-tech Heat Treatment process completed in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and to reduce friction. A new, all over, Phosphate Coating has been introduced which has a slight hardness increase combined with light surface porosity for superior adhesion qualities of the Molybdenum Coating, extending durability. This is a Grade B piston with STD compression of 12.8:1 and a bore of 77.97mm.
