Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content depending on the application. They are produced using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, followed by a high-tech heat treatment with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. A new Phosphate Coating has also been introduced, offering increased hardness and surface porosity for superior Molybdenum Coating adhesion and durability. This piston is a Grade B, 53.96mm single ring race piston.
