Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminum alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon, depending on the application. Pistons are manufactured using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quenching in hot water. Machining is completed using CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons feature a black Molybdenum Bisulphite coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating, used in Formula One engines, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion qualities for the Molybdenum Coating, extending durability. This piston has a bore size of 76.96mm and a compression ratio of 12.6:1.
