Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by heat treatment with solubilization by quenching in hot water. Machining is done using CNC machines and diamond tools for specific surface finishes. Each Vertex piston undergoes manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons feature a Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and reduced friction. A new Phosphate Coating, used in Formula One engines, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating. This piston has a 76.97mm bore and a 13.8:1 compression ratio.
