Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content depending on application. The pistons are produced using gravity cast or hydraulic forging and refined with a hi-tech Heat Treatment process. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes for the intended application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. The pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. Vertex also offers a new Phosphate Coating which increases hardness and surface porosity, enhancing Molybdenum Coating adhesion and durability. This piston is twin ring, Grade D, and 63.97mm in diameter.

  • Molybdenum Bisulphite Coating: A high-performance black coating that minimizes friction during the break-in period and throughout the internal working cycle of the engine.
  • Phosphate Coating: Borrowing technology from Formula One engineering, this layer provides a slight increase in surface hardness and creates a light surface porosity. This allows for superior adhesion of the Molybdenum coating, effectively doubling its durability.
