Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon depending on the application. Pistons are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, with material structure refined through heat treatment in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. This process uses advanced technology for these aluminium alloys. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools, achieving specific surface finishes based on the piston's final application. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid in break-in and reduce friction within the cylinder. Vertex has also introduced a new Phosphate Coating with increased hardness and surface porosity for superior Molybdenum Coating adhesion, doubling the coating's durability. This is a Grade C 67.96mm twin ring piston.
