Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex (low expansion) Silicon aluminium alloys (12%, 18% or 21% silicon content depending on application) produced via gravity cast or hydraulic forging. The material structure is refined using a hi-tech heat treatment process in an automatic HT implant with solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is completed using the latest CNC machines and software with diamond tools, allowing specific surface finishes for different applications. Each Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating to aid break-in and reduce friction. A new Phosphate Coating, developed following Formula One engine advancements, offers increased hardness, light surface porosity, and superior adhesion of the Molybdenum Coating for doubled durability. This is a Grade B, 53.98mm Nikasil bore.
