Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18% or 21% silicon content, depending on the application. They are made using gravity cast or hydraulic forging processes, then refined with a heat treatment involving solubilization by quench in hot water. Machining is done using the latest CNC machines and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Every Vertex piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons feature a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A new Phosphate Coating offers increased hardness and porosity for superior adhesion and durability of the Molybdenum Coating. This piston is Grade A, 76.95mm with a 13.3:1 high compression ratio.
