Vertex pistons are manufactured using Low-Ex aluminium alloys with 12%, 18%, or 21% silicon depending on the application. They are produced using gravity casting or hydraulic forging, followed by heat treatment in an automatic implant with solubilization and hot water quenching. Machining is done with CNC machines, software, and diamond tools to achieve specific surface finishes. Each piston undergoes rigorous manual and automatic quality control. Vertex pistons are coated with a special Molybdenum Bisulphite black coating for break-in and friction reduction. A newer Phosphate Coating provides increased hardness and surface porosity for superior Molybdenum Coating adhesion and double the coating durability. This piston has a bore size of 76.96mm and a compression ratio of 14.3:1.
